Chromebooks & The Chromebase.

Is chrome becoming a new major OS?

Chromefront Pictured above is LG's new Chromebase, Perhaps resembling a body that of an iMac, An aesthetically well thought out desktop.

Chrome has really grown this year....

Google's Chromebooks were two of the three best selling laptops at Amazon this holiday season. Chromebooks are cheap latops & desktops, Good value. They are kind of like 'the peoples laptop/desktop'

In a press release, Amazon listed "Samsung Chromebook; ASUS Transformer Book; Acer Chromebook" as the three best selling laptops on Amazon.com for the holiday season.

At first a laptop that primarily used the internet and web apps seemed futile, but in todays modern world, Doesnt it make a lot of sense? Perhaps not as a primary workspace but doesnt the Chromebook fill another space? The Chromebook is 'ready when you are' a laptop that one can just instantly boot up and google a curiousity, Or finish that proposal for HR.

Is it because of their price?

The cheapest Samsung Chromebook is £199 (Amazon)
Samsung Chromebook
The cheapest Acer Chromebook is £199 with a few seemingly better specs; Acer C720 11.6-inch Chromebook
A high-end Chromebook by Google itself is also available on Amazon: NEW Google Chromebook Pixel (WiFi)
is priced at £1,019.

I dont think its just because of the Chromebooks price, I think they really do make a difference, I havent had the chance to test one first hand yet, But I really do appreciate that this is a standalone device category.

LG Chromebase

Is it an iChrome? It certainly does resemble something out of Apple's industrial design labs, LG has recently released a press release featuring their newest Chrome device.
Chromebasefrontandside Not merely as sexy as Apple's iMac, LG has struck on some good land with this bold new design for a Chromebook.

I would never have really seen the point of Chrome OS in a desktop, but why not?

While aesthically pleasing, does the chromebase really stand up to its looks? The Chromebase is an all-in-one PC that combines Chrome with a 21.5-inch display with 1,920x1,080 full HD resolution. With regards to how lightweight Chrome OS really is, it should coem as no surprise that the other specs arent as inspring. It features: Intel Celeron Haswell processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of solid-state storage.

LG has not released pricing information as of yet (This post will be updated when they do) but I do suppose this Chrome device shoudl be rather cheap with relation to the pricing strategy of other Chrome devices (Leaving out Google's own high-end Chromebook)

This device certainly couldnt ask for too much of a price tag with regards to its specs.

I must comment yet again on the design and its relevances to Apple's iMac...

Perhaps LG could use some inspiration juice.
